Abstract

This study was motivated by the low development of fine motor skills in early childhood. The research aimed to identify the fine motor skills of young children, describe the implementation of the rubbing activity (“usap abur”), and assess its effectiveness in improving fine motor skills at TK Negeri Pembina Koto Baru. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method. Data sources consisted of 2 teachers and 15 students. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, while analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing.The results indicated that, prior to the treatment, most children’s fine motor skills were in the “starting to develop” (MB) category. Out of 15 children, 3 had “not yet developed” (BB) skills, 9 were “starting to develop” (MB), and 3 were “developing as expected” (BSH). The rubbing activity was implemented through the following steps: (1) preparing tools and media such as pencils, crayons, and patterns; (2) selecting patterns suited to the learning theme; (3) attaching the pattern to blank paper, pressing it with the left hand, and coloring it fully; (4) removing the pattern and rubbing with the right hand inward or outward; and (5) using varied colors and repetition to enhance the artwork’s appeal.Post-treatment, fine motor skills improved to the “developing as expected” (BSH) category. Improvements were evident in indicators such as drawing based on ideas (80%), imitating shapes (87%), exploring media (73%), using tools correctly (67%), and expressing detail through drawing (80%). This demonstrates that rubbing activities effectively enhance fine motor skills in early childhood.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the observation that several children exhibit impatience. The purpose of this study is to examine the steps of implementing the storytelling method, the ways to instill the value of patience from the story of Prophet Ayyub a.s., and the level of patience in early childhood after the teacher applies this method at Dharma Bakti Tarantang Kindergarten. This study uses descriptive research with a qualitative approach. Data were collected from 2 teachers and 15 students through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions.The results indicate that the steps of implementing the storytelling method include selecting the story, praying before telling, arranging the sitting and book position, displaying the book title, narrating the story with appropriate voice intonation, closing the story, and conducting a question-and-answer session. The method instills patience in several aspects: facing challenges (queuing when entering and leaving class), praying and seeking help (before and after activities), mental resilience (not getting angry while completing tasks), waiting during the healing process (taking turns washing and wiping hands), and appreciating Allah’s assistance (waiting for their turn to answer the teacher’s questions).The value of patience after the implementation of storytelling shows significant improvement. On the indicator of queuing when entering and leaving class, 12 children (80%) developed very well (BSB); praying before and after activities, 14 children (93%) BSB; not getting angry during assignments, 11 children (73%) BSB; waiting turns to wash and wipe hands, 12 children (80%) BSB; and waiting turns to answer questions when going home, 11 children (73%) BSB. This demonstrates that storytelling effectively fosters patience in early childhood.
