Abstract

The purpose of this research was to examine the effectiveness of using letter card media (Flash Cards) in enhancing the beginning reading ability of 1st-grade students at SDN 2 Jayalaksana. The low ability of students to recognize and pronounce letter symbols served as the primary background for this study. The method employed was Classroom Action Research (CAR), implemented in two cycles using the Kurt Lewin model. The research subjects were 25 1st-grade students. The results demonstrated a significant increase in learning completeness. In the pre-action stage, classical completeness was only 48%. After the implementation of the action in Cycle I, completeness remained at 48%. However, following the refinement of the action in Cycle II, classical completeness sharply increased to 84%, surpassing the established success indicator (80%), with the average class score reaching 72.8. The conclusion of this study indicates that the implementation of letter card media is highly effective and relevant as a pedagogical intervention to improve the beginning reading ability in primary school students.
