Abstract

This research and development was motivated by a problem found at SD Inpres Bertingkat Kelapa Lima 2, Kupang City. This problem is characterized by students' suboptimal beginning reading skills, particularly in memorizing and recognizing letters of the alphabet, which hinders their learning in class. Therefore, media such as picture word cards are needed to assist students in learning beginning reading, to attract their attention and interest. This study aims to develop effective picture word cards to improve beginning reading skills in grade I students of SD Inpres Bertingkat Kelapa Lima 2, Kupang City. This study used the research and development method with the ADDIE model: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The subjects were first-grade students at SD Inpres Bertingkat Kelapa Lima 2, Kupang City. The media development consisted of picture word cards, created based on the steps and tailored to students' learning needs. The quality of the picture word cards was assessed by expert validators, teacher responses, and student responses. The validation test results for the picture word cards by material experts and media experts categorized them as very valid, with validity scores of 95 and 90, respectively. The results of the teacher and student response tests for the picture word cards categorized them as very good (SB) with percentages of 87.5% and 83.3%, respectively. Based on the expert validation data, teacher responses, and student responses, it can be concluded that the picture word cards developed for beginning reading material are suitable for use as a medium in the learning process.

Abstract

This study aims to gain a deep and contextual understanding of the role of teachers in shaping the character of grade IIIB students at the UPTD SD Inpres Bertinggi Kelapa Lima 1. This type of research is qualitative research with a descriptive approach, with the research subjects being grade IIIB students and their homeroom teachers. Data collection techniques used in this study were observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that the character of grade IIIB students shows varying results for each indicator. In the discipline indicator, the majority of students (61.1%) are in the agree category. This indicates that students are quite disciplined in participating in learning activities. This discipline is seen from compliance with rules and regularity in learning. In the responsibility indicator, 55.6% of students are in the agree category. This means that most students already have responsibilities in learning, but there are still students who are less active in completing assignments or following directions. On the cooperation indicator, the results show that the majority of students (61.1%) are in the disagree category. This means that students' cooperation skills are still low. Students tend not to be active in group activities, discussions, or communication with friends. Meanwhile, on the social concern indicator, all students (100%) are in the agree category. This shows that students have very good social attitudes, such as helping each other, caring for friends, and having a sense of empathy.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the forms of students’ conceptual errors in addition and subtraction material in Grade II of SDI Bertingkat Kelapa Lima 3 based on Newman Analysis. Conceptual errors in mathematics learning are one of the common problems experienced by elementary school students because they can affect the understanding of basic concepts in subsequent learning materials. Newman Analysis was used to identify students’ errors through five stages, namely reading, comprehension, transformation, process skills, and encoding. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. The participants of this study were Grade II students of SDI Bertingkat Kelapa Lima 3 and the Grade II classroom teacher. Data were collected through written tests, observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through technique triangulation and source triangulation. The results showed that students made errors at all stages of Newman Analysis. At the reading stage, some students still made mistakes in recognizing mathematical symbols and key words in the questions. At the comprehension stage, students had not fully understood the meaning of the questions. At the transformation stage, students made mistakes in determining the appropriate mathematical operation. At the process skills stage, students still made errors in carrying and borrowing techniques. At the encoding stage, students had not written the final answers according to the context of the questions. The most dominant errors were found at the process skills stage because students still lacked understanding of the correct calculation procedures.
