Abstract

This study aims to improve fifth-grade students' understanding of the food chain concept by using the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model supported by interactive PowerPoint media. The research method used is Classroom Action Research (CAR) which was implemented in two cycles at SDN Cikurubuk, with the first cycle being implemented on November 20, 2025 and the second cycle on November 29, 2025. The subjects of this study were fifth-grade students. Each cycle consisted of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection stages. Data collection was carried out through multiple-choice tests (postest) to measure understanding of the food chain concept. Data were analyzed quantitatively descriptively by comparing the posttest results in each cycle. The research findings showed that in the first cycle, students' understanding of the concept was still uneven and some students had not reached the learning mastery standard. After improvements in the learning process in the second cycle, the posttest results showed a significant improvement, which was seen from the increase in student scores and the achievement of overall learning mastery. This increase indicates that the application of the Project Based Learning model supported by interactive PowerPoint media is effective in improving fifth-grade students' understanding of the food chain concept. Thus, this learning model can be used as an alternative choice in teaching science at elementary school level to improve students' understanding.
