Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the Aksara Kata Program through joyful storytelling activities in strengthening elementary school students’ literacy skills. This research employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive method. The research subjects consisted of the principal, teachers, and students at SD Negeri 015 Tanjung Jabung Barat. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results indicate that the Aksara Kata Program was implemented in a planned and sustainable manner through storytelling activities that actively engaged students. These activities contributed to improving students’ reading and writing literacy skills, fostering reading interest, and enhancing students’ confidence in expressing ideas both orally and in writing. Supporting factors included strong support from the school principal, active teacher involvement, and students’ enthusiasm, while challenges involved limited facilities and differences in students’ literacy abilities. The Aksara Kata Program also functions as a co-curricular activity that strengthens intraclass learning and promotes a school literacy culture. Therefore, joyful storytelling activities within the Aksara Kata Program are an effective strategy for strengthening literacy in elementary schools.
