Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of shadow cock training on improving agility among badminton athletes aged 10–14 years at PB Surya Jaya, Malang Regency. The research employed a quantitative experimental method with a one-group pretest–posttest design. The sample consisted of 14 athletes (8 males and 6 females) who participated in a six-week training program with a frequency of three sessions per week. The training program focused on shadow cock exercises, which involve performing simulated badminton movement techniques without the use of a shuttlecock.Data were collected through pretest and posttest measurements using a 5-meter shuttle run cock test. The results indicated a significant improvement in agility performance: the average agility time of male athletes improved from 44.03 seconds to 40.55 seconds, while female athletes improved from 47.15 seconds to 44.74 seconds. The results of the t-test showed a significance value of less than 0.05, indicating that shadow cock training was effective in enhancing athletes’ agility. Therefore, shadow cock training can be considered an effective training method for developing agility in early-age badminton athletes.
