Abstract

Islamic civilization plays an important role in shaping the social and cultural identity of the Arab-Malay community in Jambi, Seberang City. Its presence not only changes religious aspects, but also influences people's lifestyles, customs and social interactions. This research aims to analyze the history of the entry and development of Islamic civilization in Jambi, Seberang City, the process of forming Arab-Malay identity, as well as the influence of Islam on traditional values and social life of the community. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a literature review approach by examining various historical sources, books and relevant scientific articles. The results of the research show that Islam entered Jambi, Seberang City through trade routes and the preaching of Arab scholars, then developed along with the formation of the Muslim community. The interaction between Arab and Malay culture gave rise to a process of assimilation through marriage, language and customs. Islam plays a role as the main glue in the formation of Arab–Malay identity, which is reflected in the adat principles of bersendi syarak, syarak bersendi Kitabullah.
