Abstract

The anthropological approach in the study of religion is one of the methods used to understand religion as a social and cultural phenomenon in human life. This approach emphasizes that religion is not only understood as a theological belief system, but also as a social practice influenced by traditions, culture, and the surrounding community environment. Through an anthropological perspective, the study of religion is conducted by observing religious rituals, symbols, and patterns of behavior in how communities practice their religious teachings. Therefore, this approach helps explain how religion interacts with culture and shapes social values within society. In Islamic studies, the anthropological approach can be used to understand various religious practices that develop among Muslim communities, including the influence of local traditions on these practices. This approach provides a more comprehensive understanding of the relationship between religion, culture, and human social life in various social contexts.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the essence of human beings as Homo Religiosus from a multidisciplinary perspective encompassing philosophical, psychological, sociological, and theological dimensions. The main focus is to demonstrate that religiosity is not merely an additional attribute but an integral part of human consciousness that drives the search for meaning and connection with transcendent reality. This research employs a qualitative method through a literature review of key thinkers such as Mircea Eliade, Rudolf Otto, and Viktor Frankl. The findings indicate that from a psychological perspective, religion functions as a mechanism for fulfilling the human need for meaning and alleviating existential anxiety, while from a sociological perspective, it serves as a foundation for moral values and social integration. Furthermore, modernity presents challenges in the form of spiritual crises and loss of meaning, which require a comprehensive methodological approach to understand religious phenomena. Therefore, integrating normative and historical approaches is essential to ensure that religious teachings remain relevant in addressing the dynamics of modern life without losing their spiritual essence.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the definition and sources of Islamic teachings within the framework of Islamic studies methodology in a comprehensive manner. The research employs a qualitative literature review approach to analyze Islam from both etymological and terminological perspectives, as well as to explore its epistemological foundations. The findings indicate that, linguistically, Islam conveys meanings of submission, peace, and salvation, while terminologically it is understood as a revealed religion centered on the concept of monotheism (tawhid) that governs all aspects of human life. Within the methodology of Islamic studies, the primary sources of Islamic teachings consist of the Qur’an as the absolute divine revelation, the Sunnah as the explanatory and practical authority, and ijtihad as a rational instrument that enables the teachings of Islam to remain dynamic and contextually relevant. These three sources form an integrated system of knowledge that harmonizes revelation and reason, allowing Islam to address the evolving challenges of human life. Therefore, understanding the definition and sources of Islamic teachings is not only conceptual but also methodological, playing a crucial role in the development of critical, contextual, and relevant Islamic studies.
