Abstract

This study examines entrepreneurship development and income dynamics among micro-entrepreneurs in Ilorin, Nigeria, with emphasis on income mobility and entrepreneurial innovation. Using a cross-sectional survey of 430 respondents selected through purposive sampling, the study employed descriptive statistics, cross-tabulations, and chi-square analysis to assess income changes before and after entrepreneurial engagement and to explore the relationship between income levels and innovation adoption. The results show a significant shift in income distribution, with the proportion of low-income respondents declining from 75.60% to 63.25%, while middle-income and high-income groups increased by 95.34% and 91.66% respectively. Findings further indicate that 67.7% of respondents engage in innovation activities, although the relationship between income and innovation is only marginally significant (χ² = 13.51, p = 0.05342). The study concludes that entrepreneurship enhances income mobility but in a non-uniform manner, while innovation is influenced by multiple structural and capability-based factors. Policy recommendations emphasize financial inclusion, institutional strengthening, and innovation support systems for micro-entrepreneurs.
