Abstract

Low learning motivation among school-aged children is a problem found among Sunday School children at the HKBP Glugur Resort Church in North Medan, characterized by difficulty understanding lessons, boredom with learning, and minimal parental guidance. This community service activity aims to increase the learning motivation of Sunday School children through tutoring with a creative and fun approach. The activity was carried out for three weeks (February 4–March 2, 2026) targeting 60 children divided into three age groups. The method used was a participatory approach through the preparation, implementation, and evaluation stages. Tutoring was held every Tuesday and Saturday with materials on Mathematics, Indonesian, English, and Civics using learning-by-play methods, interactive media (learning videos, Kahoot applications, flashcards), and educational games. The culminating activity was a Happy Sunday with educational competitions between groups. The results of the activity showed an increase in learning motivation as indicated by regular attendance (25-30 children per meeting), active questioning and answering, and enthusiasm in participating in activities. Children understood the subject matter better and found it easier to complete school assignments. Supporting factors included church support, solid teamwork, and the availability of infrastructure. Thus, tutoring with a creative approach effectively increases Sunday school students' learning motivation.
