Abstract

Objective: This study aims to analyze the influence of cultural tourism on tourism progress and Regional Original Income (PAD) in the tourism sector and examine the mediating role of tourism progress from the perspective of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Alor Regency. Theoretical Framework: This study is based on the theory of cultural tourism, sustainable tourism development, and regional economic development that places culture as a strategic asset in increasing destination competitiveness and regional fiscal capacity. Literature Review: Although various studies have discussed the economic benefits of cultural tourism, regional tourism development, and PAD in the tourism sector in island regions are still limited. Method: The study used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional explanatory design. Data were obtained from 60 tourism stakeholders through purposive sampling and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). Results: Cultural tourism has a positive and significant effect on tourism progress (β=0.507; p<0.001) and PAD in the tourism sector (β=0.597; p<0.001). Tourism progress also has a positive effect on the tourism sector's PAD (β=0.252; p=0.004) and partially mediates the relationship between cultural tourism and PAD (β=0.128; p=0.033). The effect size value (f²=0.620) indicates that cultural tourism is the main determinant of increasing the tourism sector's PAD. Implications: These findings provide an empirical basis for formulating cultural tourism development policies that support the achievement of SDGs 8, SDG 11, and SDG 17. Novelty: This study offers an empirical model that integrates cultural tourism, tourism progress, and tourism sector PAD in a single SDGs-based analytical framework in the context of an archipelagic region, which is still relatively rarely studied in Indonesian tourism literature.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to understand and analyze the meaning of the Belabaja philosophy in realizing sustainable peace in the Galiau Watang Lema Traditional Alliance community in Alor Regency. The object of the study focuses on the practice, values, and meaning of the Belabaja ritual as a customary mechanism in reconciling social conflicts and forming the collective identity of the Alor-Pantar coastal community. Theoretical framework: The theoretical framework of this study is based on sociological conflict theory and symbolic interactionism, which views conflict as an inherent part of social dynamics. Literature review: The literature review discusses social conflict as an inherent social process within plural societies and highlights the importance of local wisdom in conflict resolution and reconciliation. Previous studies on customary law, ritual-based reconciliation. Methods: This study uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with traditional and community leaders, and documentation of traditional practices, then analyzed qualitatively to capture the lived experiences and social meanings attached to the Bela Baja ritual. Results: The results of the study indicate that Belabaja functions as a traditional oath ritual that transforms subjective awareness of solidarity into objective awareness of social brotherhood, thus effectively preventing recurring conflicts and strengthening social cohesion across groups. Implications: The implications of this study confirm that the integration of local wisdom such as Belabaja contributes to the achievement of SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Resilient Institutions) and SDG 11 (Sustainable Communities). Novelty: The novelty of this study lies in the phenomenological analysis of Belabaja as a foundation for sustainable peace and collective identity in the traditional alliance system

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to analyze the process of cultural and religious acculturation as a practice of religious moderation in strengthening the social identity and sustainability of the life of the Amanuban indigenous community in South Central Timor Regency (TTS). Theoretical Framework: This study is based on the theory of cultural acculturation, the concept of religious moderation, and the symbolic interactionism approach that views social identity and religious practices as the result of the construction of meaning through symbolic interaction in the context of local culture. Literature Review: The literature review shows that the integration of culture and religion plays an important role in maintaining social harmony in plural societies, but studies that directly link it to the sustainability of local identity and social development are still relatively limited. Methods: This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a phenomenological design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with traditional and religious leaders, participatory observation of socio-religious practices, and documentation studies. Data analysis was carried out thematically to explore the life experiences, social meanings, and symbolic values inherent in the practices of cultural and religious acculturation of the Amanuban community. Results: The results of the study indicate that cultural and religious acculturation serve as an effective social mechanism in shaping the character of an inclusive, tolerant, and harmony-oriented society among religious communities. Local values such as feto-mone and natoni act as an integrative medium that bridges differences in beliefs and strengthens the collective identity of the community without negating the basic principles of religious teachings. Implications: These findings confirm that cultural and religious acculturation contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 16 through strengthening peace and social cohesion, and SDG 11 through preserving cultural identity and community sustainability. Novelty: The novelty of this study lies in the phenomenological analysis of cultural and religious acculturation as a strategy for sustainable religious moderation in facing modern social dynamics.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to analyze the dynamics of social conflict between youth and the conflict reconciliation process in the context of mountain-coastal communities in Kalabahi, Alor Regency. This study focuses on understanding how conflicts are formed, developed, and resolved through social mechanisms based on local wisdom. Theoretical Framework: This study uses the perspective of Conflict Sociology and Conflict Transformation which views conflict as a social phenomenon that not only needs to be resolved, but also transformed into a force in building sustainable social cohesion. Literature Review: Youth social conflict from the perspective of local social dynamics, conflict reconciliation as a socio-cultural mechanism and social dynamics of mountains and coasts in the framework of traditional alliances. Method: This study uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenological type to explore the subjective experiences of youth and communities involved in the conflict. Data collection techniques were carried out through triangulation, including observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, which were analyzed using qualitative data analysis techniques. Results: The findings indicate that inter-youth conflict is influenced by social identity factors, historical memory, and the weak role of formal institutions. Conflict reconciliation can be carried out by identifying the roots of the conflict and integrating legal and cultural approaches in a sustainable manner through collaboration between local governments, security forces, and community leaders. Local wisdom mechanisms such as cross-alliance kinship relations, customary deliberations, and socio-cultural practices have proven effective in rebuilding trust and social cohesion. Implications: Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 16) in building inclusive and sustainable youth conflict reconciliation through the synergy of customary institutions and formal institutions. Novelty: Developing a reconciliation model based on mountain-coastal dynamics in a contextual and adaptive Conflict Transformation perspective.
