Abstract

The increasing demand for environmentally friendly agricultural systems presents challenges and opportunities for the development of sustainable rice cultivation in the lowland swamps of South Sumatra. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of biohara in increasing the resistance of the Ciherang rice variety to biotic and abiotic stress during the vegetative phase. Biohara itself is made from various materials such as biofertilizer and animal manure compost. This application is the first study in a lowland swamp ecosystem. The research location is in the Ogan Ilir area of Kotadaro I Village. This initial study was conducted to observe pest and disease attacks as well as growth factors such as the number of tillers and plant height. The results of the study showed a significant increase in plant growth, with an average of 44.88 cm and 38 tillers per 10 clumps. Observations of pest attacks found 11 species of insect pests from four orders, but their populations remained under control. The intensity of leaf blast disease increased gradually but remained within tolerable limits. Nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium content in the soil increased without causing chemical imbalance. This study shows that the Biohara-based approach is not only environmentally friendly but also effective in maintaining the stability of agricultural ecosystems in vulnerable peat swamp ecosystems. This study reinforces the potential of environmentally friendly cultivation technologies as a sustainable alternative in peat swamp ecosystems.

Abstract

  Busuk pangkal batang (BPB) adalah penyakit serius menyerang kelapa sawit (Elaeis guineensis). Penyakit disebabkan oleh jamur Ganoderma boninense yang menyebabkan busuk putih. Ekstrak kencur dapat memengaruhi pertumbuhan jamur G. boninense. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh eksudat kencur terhadap pertumbuhan G. boninense. Uji penghambatan pertumbuhan G. boninense terdiri dari dua sampel eksudat tanaman kencur dengan konsentrasi 0; 1,25; 5 dan 20%. Setiap pengujian disusun dalam rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) dengan lima ulangan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa eksudat akar dan rimpang kencur (Kaempferia galanga) memiliki efek alelopati negatif terhadap pertumbuhan koloni. Peningkatan nilai EC media kultur perlakuan G. boninense menunjukkan mekanisme penghambatan memiliki potensi kebocoran membran plasma. Eksudat dapat menyebabkan penurunan pH media menjadi asam yang mengakibatkan respon stress oksidatif. Penelitian ini menyelidiki sifat antijamur dari eksudat rimpang kencur terhadap G. boninense menyoroti potensi sebagai agen alami untuk pengelolaan penyakit berkelanjutan di kelapa sawit.

Abstract

Colletotrichum capsici causes anthracnose in chili plants, which can drastically impair productivity and fruit quality. Pesticide-based pest control is often ineffective, necessitating a more environmentally friendly option. The purpose of this study is to investigate the suppressive microbiome capability of Kaempferia galanga rhizome exudate in preventing C. capici growth. The microbiome is obtained by enrichment with a pathogenic inoculum and the addition of chitin. In vitro, antifungal activity was assessed by monitoring the percentage of colony inhibition, changes in hyphal shape, and measuring electrical conductivity (EC) as a sign of cell membrane damage. According to research findings, the suppressive microbiome can restrict the establishment of pathogenic colonies while also inducing the creation of chlamydospores in response to stress. The inclusion of chitin resulted in the strongest antifungal activity and elevated the EC value to 320.67 µS cm-1, indicating electrolyte leakage from cell membrane disruption. These findings suggest that the microbiome from K. galanga rhizome exudate has the potential to act as a biological control agent for anthracnose in chili peppers. More research is required to discover the important microorganisms and bioactive chemicals involved in antifungal processes.
