Abstract

Abstrak: Pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk mengenalkan dan mengimplementasikan smart freshness label berbasis bromofenol biru dan metil merah sebagai indikator non-destruktif dalam memprediksi tingkat kematangan pisang ambon lumut. Varietas pisang ini memiliki karakteristik unik karena warna kulitnya tetap hijau saat matang, sehingga penentuan tingkat kematangan sering dilakukan dengan menekan buah dan berpotensi menyebabkan memar serta menurunkan mutu dan nilai jual. Kegiatan dilaksanakan melalui penyuluhan, demonstrasi teknologi, dan pelatihan teknis kepada 23 peserta yang terdiri dari petani dan pedagang produk pisang lokal. Evaluasi kegiatan dilakukan menggunakan kuesioner dan observasi praktik penggunaan label indikator. Uji coba terhadap 80 prototipe label menunjukkan teknologi ini mudah diaplikasikan dalam proses penyimpanan dan distribusi buah. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan 92% peserta menyatakan label membantu menentukan waktu panen atau penjualan, 84% menilai label mudah digunakan, dan 56% menyatakan bersedia menggunakannya secara berkelanjutan. Kegiatan ini meningkatkan pemahaman masyarakat terhadap teknologi indikator kesegaran serta mendukung penerapan teknologi pascapanen secara non-destruktif.Abstract: his community engagement program aims to introduce and implement a smart freshness label based on bromophenol blue and methyl red as a non-destructive indicator for predicting the ripeness level of Ambon Lumut bananas. This banana variety possesses a unique characteristic in which the peel remains green even at the ripe stage, leading consumers and traders to determine ripeness by pressing the fruit, a practice that may cause bruising and reduce product quality and market value. The activity was carried out through outreach sessions, technology demonstrations, and technical training involving 23 participants consisting of farmers and local banana traders. The program evaluation was conducted using questionnaires and direct observation of participants’ practices in applying the indicator labels. Field trials involving 80 prototype labels demonstrated that the technology is easy to apply during fruit storage and distribution processes. Evaluation results indicated that 92% of participants reported that the label helped determine the appropriate harvesting or selling time, 84% considered the label easy to use, and 56% expressed willingness to adopt the technology continuously. Overall, the program enhanced community understanding of freshness indicator technology and supported the adoption of non-destructive postharvest practices.
