Abstract

The integration of religious values in STEM education remains underexplored, particularly within the context of Islamic-based schools in Indonesia. Understanding how science teachers perceive and implement such integration is crucial for developing culturally responsive pedagogy. This study aims to explore the perceptions, strategies, and challenges faced by science teachers in implementing STEM-R (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics–Religious) in their classrooms. Using a qualitative descriptive method, data were collected through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis involving selected science teachers from Islamic-based senior high schools. Visual clustering and thematic analysis were employed to interpret data. The study focused on identifying emotional responses, instructional strategies, reflective practices, and perceived student outcomes related to the STEM-R approach. Findings indicate that teachers perceive STEM-R positively, describing it as spiritually meaningful and pedagogically enriching. The study concludes that STEM-R facilitates holistic education by integrating scientific understanding with ethical and spiritual development. This research contributes to the field by offering empirical insight into STEM-R implementation and proposing a practical model for faith-integrated STEM pedagogy in religious education contexts.

Abstract

Abstract:  This research aims to explore the application of various schools of philosophy in science learning, such as constructivism, empiricism, rationalism, pragmatism, and reconstructionism. The method used in this study is a literature review with a narrative review approach. The result of this study is that the application of philosophy in science learning, such as constructivism, empiricism, rationalism, pragmatism, and reconstructivism, can improve students' understanding of scientific concepts and critical thinking skills. Each stream provides a different approach, from hands-on experiential learning to problem-solving relevant to everyday life and linking science to social and ethical contexts. This integration of philosophy helps create a more dynamic and meaningful learning environment.Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi penerapan berbagai aliran filsafat dalam pembelajaran sains, seperti konstruktivisme, empirisme, rasionalisme, pragmatisme, dan rekonstruktivisme. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah literatur review dengan pendekatan narrative review. Hasil penelitian ini adalah penerapan filsafat dalam pembelajaran sains, seperti konstruktivisme, empirisme, rasionalisme, pragmatisme, dan rekonstruktivisme dapat meningkatkan pemahaman konsep ilmiah dan keterampilan berpikir kritis peserta didik. Setiap aliran memberikan pendekatan yang berbeda, mulai dari pembelajaran berbasis pengalaman langsung hingga pemecahan masalah yang relevan dengan kehidupan sehari-hari, serta mengaitkan sains dengan konteks sosial dan etika. Integrasi filsafat ini membantu menciptakan lingkungan belajar yang lebih dinamis dan bermakna.
