Abstract

Purpose: This study examines the influence of interpersonal communication and workplace friendships on employee job satisfaction in a public-sector organization.. Research Method: A quantitative survey approach was employed involving 80 employees of the South Sulawesi Provincial Office of Communications, Information Technology, Statistics, and Cryptography. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using SPSS 23, including validity and reliability tests, classical assumption tests, multiple linear regression, t-tests, F-tests, and coefficient of determination analysis. Results and Discussion: The results indicate that interpersonal communication has a positive but insignificant effect on employee job satisfaction. In contrast, workplace friendships have a positive and significant effect on job satisfaction. These findings suggest that supportive social relationships, trust, and friendship among colleagues contribute more strongly to employee satisfaction than communication processes alone. The study highlights the importance of workplace social dynamics in shaping positive employee attitudes within public organizations. Implications: Public organizations should foster supportive workplace relationships through collaboration, team-building activities, and programs that encourage social interaction and peer support to enhance employee satisfaction. Originality: This study provides empirical evidence that workplace friendships are a stronger predictor of job satisfaction than interpersonal communication, offering new insights into the role of informal social relationships in public-sector workplaces.

Abstract

Purpose: This study examines the effects of competence, motivation, and workplace empathy on employee performance at the Takkalalla Community Health Center in Wajo Regency, while also identifying the most influential variable in the proposed model. Research Method: The study employed a quantitative case study design with census sampling, involving all 55 employees of the health center as respondents. Data were collected via a structured questionnaire using a 5-point Likert scale and analyzed in SPSS version 24. The analytical procedures included descriptive statistics, validity and reliability tests, classical assumption testing, multiple linear regression, partial t-tests, and coefficient-of-determination analysis. Results and Discussion: This study demonstrates that employee performance in the Takkalalla Community Health Center is significantly influenced by competence, motivation, and workplace empathy. The findings confirm that performance in primary healthcare is not determined solely by technical skills, but by the combined effects of cognitive, psychological, and interpersonal factors. Implications: These findings suggest that efforts to improve employee performance in primary healthcare should not focus solely on competence and motivation, but also on strengthening workplace empathy. The study contributes to policy and practice by proposing a more comprehensive performance model for community healthcare settings. Future research is recommended to test this model in broader healthcare institutions with larger samples and more diverse organizational contexts.

Abstract

Purpose: This study examines the influence of digital capability and job training on competitive advantage, with employee competence serving as a mediating variable among clothing stores in Bulukumba Regency. Research Method: This study employed a quantitative explanatory design. Data were collected through questionnaires administered to 100 retail employees in Bulukumba, South Sulawesi. Using purposive sampling, the data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) with SmartPLS 4.0. Results and Discussion: The results indicate that digital capability and job training have a significant effect on employee competence. Employee competence also has a significant effect on competitive advantage, whereas digital capability and job training do not directly affect competitive advantage. In addition, employee competence fully mediates the relationships between digital capability, job training, and competitive advantage. Implications: These findings highlight the importance of human capital development in the retail sector, suggesting that technology adoption and training initiatives enhance competitiveness only when they successfully improve individual employee competence. This study contributes to the small business management literature by emphasizing that, for local retailers, the human aspect of digital transformation and skills development constitutes the critical pathway to achieving a sustainable competitive advantage in a dynamic market.
