Abstract

Purpose: This paper examines the challenges in educational planning in Nigeria and proposes solutions to address these issues, emphasizing the importance of educational planning in achieving educational goals. Research Methodology: The study is based on secondary data sourced from both online and print resources. It identifies key challenges hindering educational planning and suggests practical solutions for improvement. Results: The findings reveal several challenges affecting educational planning in Nigeria, including poor funding, inadequate data for planning, shortage of skilled personnel, political interference, lack of planning tools, implementation constraints, administrative bottlenecks, insufficient training, poor forecasting, a gap between planners and implementers, and corruption. Conclusions: The paper concludes that to improve educational planning, there is a need for increased funding, up-to-date educational data, qualified planners, adequate planning tools, continuous training, use of technology to curb corruption, and modern forecasting equipment. Limitations: The study is limited by its reliance on secondary data, which may not fully capture recent developments or regional variations in educational planning practices. Contributions: This paper contributes to the understanding of the challenges facing educational planning in Nigeria and provides practical recommendations to enhance the effectiveness of planning processes, ensuring the successful realization of educational objectives.
