Abstract

This research is motivated by the low motivation and learning outcomes of students in Physics, especially Newton's Laws, due to teacher-centered learning that tends to make students passive. This study aims to determine the effect of the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model accompanied by probing techniques on learning motivation, learning outcomes, and the influence of both simultaneously on students of class XI MAN 1 Tulungagung. The study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental type and a posttest-only control group design. The study population was 173 students of class XI Science, with a sample of two classes selected by purposive sampling, namely class XI Science A as the experimental class and XI Science B as the control class, each consisting of 36 students. The experimental class was treated with the PBL model with probing techniques, while the control class used the direct learning model. The results showed that the application of the PBL model with probing techniques had a significant effect on students' learning motivation and improved learning outcomes in Newton's Laws. Simultaneously, this model also had an effect on students' motivation and learning outcomes. These findings indicate that the integration of PBL with probing techniques can be an effective alternative learning strategy in physics learning.
