Abstract

This research aimed to formulate a research ecosystem model based on collaboration among ELT students that can foster innovation in the field of sustainable technology. Using a qualitative-descriptive approach, data were collected through literature studies, surveys, and in-depth interviews with students and education experts. The results showed that a collaborative research ecosystem involving ELT students across disciplines and institutions can enhance students’ innovation capacity and research skills while strengthening local technological competitiveness. Constraints in the development of this ecosystem include limited infrastructure support and resources, which can be addressed through educational policies that promote inter-campus collaboration and improve research facilities. This study concluded that building a research ecosystem based on ELT student collaboration is an effective strategy for fostering sustainable technological innovation and provides recommendations for universities and the government to facilitate the creation of an ecosystem that supports research collaboration. The findings imply that institutional commitment and cross-disciplinary synergy are crucial for translating student-led research into impactful, real-world sustainable solutions.

Abstract

The research aims to identify the learning needs of Gen-Z students regarding research methodology and to develop a contextualized Research Methodology Textbook tailored to their characteristics and ELT practices. This study addresses this gap by the challenges faced by English Education students in comprehending research methodology, which are largely due to the overly theoretical and textual nature of existing textbooks. Using a Research and Development (R&D) design guided by the ADDIE model, the study involved 20 fifth-semester students and 3 lecturers from the English Language Teaching Department at 5 universities at Cirebon, West Java, Indonesia. Data were collected through questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions, classroom observations, and expert validation checklists. Quantitative analysis showed that students’ confidence in understanding research methodology was relatively low (M = 2.8), suggesting that methodological concepts remain challenging when presented through conventional textbooks. Lecturers’ slightly higher rating (M = 3.2) reflects their awareness of these difficulties and highlights the urgent need for contextualized learning resources tailored to English Education students. Qualitative findings revealed that Qualitative insights reinforce the quantitative results, showing that the primary barrier to students’ mastery of research methodology is the theoretical and text-heavy structure of existing textbooks. Students frequently reported that traditional explanations feel abstract and disconnected from their experiences as future English teachers. These findings suggest that research methodology learning materials be redesigned to include visual, interactive, and ELT-contextualized components, supported by step-by-step scaffolding to address Gen-Z learners’ difficulties with theoretical explanations.

Abstract

This study aims to describe how technology-enhanced learning with an English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) approach is implemented at an Islamis school and to explore how teachers respond to the program. In Indonesian Islamic schools, EMI is seen as a strategic effort to strengthen students’ global readiness; therefore, integrating EMI with technology supports modernization. Using a qualitative participatory design, the research involved around 50 teachers from various subjects and was carried out in three stages: training, classroom implementation, and reflection. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed thematically using NVivo 14 with EMI, TPACK, and SWOT as analytical lenses. The findings show that technology-based EMI is progressing but still not fully effective; teachers use technology mainly for visual support and basic English exposure, but EMI practices remain limited because of frequent code-switching, technical problems, time constraints, and minimal use of interactive digital tools. Interviews reveal that teachers respond positively yet realistically: they appreciate the increased student engagement, modernized learning atmosphere, and growing professional confidence, but also acknowledge challenges such as low digital skills, limited English proficiency, and insufficient structured training. The SWOT mapping shows opportunities in institutional branding and global readiness, and threats in inadequate infrastructure, inconsistent policies, and low parental digital literacy. The study concludes that technology-based EMI in MTs Cijangkar has strong potential but is still in transition, requiring sustained professional development, better facilities, and consistent institutional support for EMI to become a stable and effective instructional practice.
