Abstract

Dermatophytosis is a skin disease caused by dermatophytic fungi. Trichophyton mentagrophytes (T. mentagrophytes) is a fungal species that is most often found in coastal areas because this species can last long on the sand beach and can causes dermatophytosis, especially for fishermen and home-based fish butchers. The research aimed to analyze the prevalence of Trichophyton mentagrophytes infection related to personal hygiene between fishermen and home-based fish butchers. The research sampling technique was used Consecutive Sampling. The research samples were 62 fishermen and 62 home-based fish butchers in the coastal areas of Sumber Jaya Village, Kampung Melayu District, Bengkulu City. The result showed 71,4% of the most prevalent dermatophytosis cases were tinea pedis with 5,6% identified as T. mentagrophytes. There was no significant difference between fishermen and home-based fish butchers in the prevalence of Trichophyton mentagrophytes infections (P=0,689). The high incidence of tinea pedis should be educated to improve living habits that have an impact o improving the quality of life of fishermen and home-based butchers.

Abstract

The incidence of Hepatitis B is still very high globally, and in Indonesia, the chronic manifestations become liver cancer. The incidence of Hepatitis B has many risk factors such as sociodemographic factors, lifestyle, and blood type. The research aimed to analyze the influence of sociodemographic factors and blood type on the incidence of hepatitis B. This study was a retrospective study from 2018-2020. The research subjects were 100 people. The data collection technique used a simple random sampling technique from the medical record data of PMI Bengkulu City. The results showed 84 men (84%) and 16 women (16%). The age of most research subjects is in the range of 20-29 years (43%). The occupation with the most hepatitis B infection is entrepreneurs (28%). The blood group with the most hepatitis B infection was blood type A+ (41%). Multivariate analysis using the PCA method showed statistically that external factors (occupational factors) and internal factors (blood type, age, and sex) affected the incidence of Hepatitis B by 36.3% and 27.5%, respectively. The logistic regression results showed an influence of external and internal factors on the incidence of Hepatitis B by 26%.

Abstract

Toxoplasma gondii is a parasite responsible for toxoplasmosis, which demonstrates a high prevalence among women of reproductive age. Limited awareness places female students outside health sciences at an elevated risk of infection. While educational interventions have the potential to enhance both knowledge and preventive behaviors, the relationship between these factors in this population remains insufficiently studied. This research sought to determine the association between knowledge levels and toxoplasmosis prevention behaviors following an educational intervention. Utilizing a quasi-experimental one-group pre–posttest design, 153 participants were involved. Data collection was conducted via questionnaires, with analysis performed using the Wilcoxon test to compare pre- and post-intervention results and the Spearman Rank test to assess the correlation between knowledge and preventive behaviors after the intervention. Findings revealed a significant improvement in knowledge scores, rising from 10.63±3.665 to 16.89±2.456 (p < 0.001), as well as in preventive behavior scores, which increased from 36.39±6.560 to 48.80±4.756 (p < 0.001). A significant, albeit very weak, positive correlation between knowledge and preventive behaviors was observed (r = 0.256; p = 0.002). The educational intervention effectively enhanced both knowledge and toxoplasmosis prevention behaviors among non-health sciences female students at the University of Bengkulu, with a notable positive association identified between these variables post-intervention.
