Abstract

This study examines the relationship between technical drawing skills and understanding of measuring tools towards machining practice competency in grade XI students of Machining Engineering at SMK Dhuafa Padang. The problem in this study is that there are still students who have difficulty in reading working drawings and using measuring tools correctly so that the results of the practice are not optimal. This study uses a quantitative method with a correlational approach and is an ex-post facto research type. The study involved 21 students, where the entire population was sampled using a total sampling technique. The research instruments were tests and documentation of practical scores. Data analysis used descriptive statistics and hypothesis testing with product moment correlation and multiple linear regression. The results of the study showed a positive relationship between technical drawing skills (r = 0.494) and understanding of measuring tools (r = 0.339) with machining practice competency. Simultaneously, both variables have a positive relationship to machining practice competency (R = 0.627; R² = 0.394). The results of this study indicate that technical drawing skills and understanding of measuring tools play an important role in improving students' machining practice competency. Keywords: Technical Drawing Skills, Understanding of Measuring Tools, Machining Practice Competence, Correlational Research, Vocational High School Students Abstrak Penelitian ini mengkaji hubungan antara kemampuan gambar teknik dan pemahaman alat ukur terhadap kompetensi praktik pemesinan pada siswa kelas XI Teknik Pemesinan SMK Dhuafa Padang. Permasalahan dalam penelitian ini adalah masih adanya siswa yang mengalami kesulitan dalam membaca gambar kerja dan menggunakan alat ukur secara tepat sehingga hasil praktik belum optimal. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif dengan pendekatan korelasional dan termasuk jenis penelitian ex-post facto. Penelitian melibatkan 21 siswa, dimana seluruh populasi dijadikan sampel dengan teknik total sampling. Instrumen penelitian berupa tes dan dokumentasi nilai praktik. Analisis data menggunakan statistik deskriptif dan uji hipotesis dengan korelasi product moment serta regresi linier berganda. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya hubungan positif  antara kemampuan gambar teknik (r = 0,494) dan pemahaman alat ukur (r = 0,339) dengan kompetensi praktik pemesinan. Secara simultan, kedua variabel memiliki hubungan positif terhadap kompetensi praktik pemesinan (R = 0,627; R² = 0,394). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan gambar teknik dan pemahaman alat ukur berperan penting dalam meningkatkan kompetensi praktik pemesinan siswa.
