Abstract

Abstrak- Teripang (Holothuroidea spp.) merupakan salah satu sumber daya perikanan bernilai ekonomi tinggi yang banyak dimanfaatkan oleh masyarakat pesisir, termasuk di Desa Papela, Kecamatan Rote Timur, Kabupaten Rote Ndao. Pemanfaatan teripang yang terus meningkat perlu diimbangi dengan pengelolaan berbasis data biologis agar keberlanjutan sumber daya tetap terjaga. Salah satu pendekatan yang dapat digunakan adalah studi morfometrik untuk mengetahui struktur ukuran populasi teripang yang tertangkap. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji karakteristik morfometrik teripang yang meliputi panjang tubuh, lebar tubuh, dan berat basah hasil tangkapan nelayan di Desa Papela. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan Juli 2025 dengan metode observasi langsung terhadap 150 individu teripang yang diperoleh dari hasil tangkapan nelayan. Data morfometrik dianalisis secara deskriptif kuantitatif melalui penyajian distribusi frekuensi dalam bentuk tabel dan histogram. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebaran ukuran panjang, lebar, dan berat teripang didominasi oleh kelas ukuran kecil hingga sedang, sedangkan individu berukuran besar ditemukan dalam jumlah yang relatif sedikit. Pola ini mengindikasikan bahwa struktur ukuran populasi teripang hasil tangkapan nelayan di perairan Desa Papela belum didominasi oleh individu dewasa penuh. Kondisi tersebut diduga berkaitan dengan tekanan penangkapan yang berlangsung secara terus-menerus tanpa mempertimbangkan ukuran minimum layak tangkap. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa struktur morfometrik teripang di Desa Papela cenderung didominasi oleh ukuran kecil dan sedang, sehingga berpotensi memengaruhi keberlanjutan populasi apabila tidak dikelola secara tepat. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan upaya pengelolaan berupa penetapan ukuran minimum layak tangkap sebagai dasar pemanfaatan sumber daya teripang secara berkelanjutan. Kata kunci: Teripang, Morfometrik, Struktur Ukuran, Desa Papela, Pengelolaan Berkelanjutan Abstract- Sea cucumbers (Holothuroidea spp.) are one of the fishery resources with high economic value that are widely utilized by coastal communities, including those in Papela Village, East Rote District, Rote Ndao Regency. The increasing exploitation of sea cucumbers needs to be balanced with biologically based management to ensure resource sustainability. One approach that can be applied is a morphometric study to assess the size structure of harvested sea cucumber populations. This study aimed to analyze the morphometric characteristics of sea cucumbers, including body length, body width, and wet weight, landed by fishermen in Papela Village. The study was conducted in July 2025 using direct observation methods on 150 sea cucumber individuals obtained from fishermen’s catches. Morphometric data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative methods by presenting frequency distributions in the form of tables and histograms. The results showed that the distributions of length, width, and weight were dominated by small to medium size classes, while large-sized individuals were found in relatively low numbers. This pattern indicates that the size structure of sea cucumbers landed in Papela waters has not been dominated by fully mature individuals. This condition is presumed to be related to continuous fishing pressure without consideration of minimum legal catch size. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the morphometric structure of sea cucumbers in Papela Village is dominated by small and medium sizes, which may potentially affect population sustainability if not properly managed. Therefore, management measures such as the establishment of a minimum legal catch size are necessary as a basis for the sustainable utilization of sea cucumber resources.
