Abstract

This study explores Matthew 5:9 as a theological foundation for developing Christian Religious Education (CRE) based on religious moderation in the context of Indonesian pluralism. The research problem examines how the concept of peacemakers in Matthew 5:9 can serve as a foundation for CRE that not only strengthens Christian identity but also cultivates moderate attitudes and appreciation for diversity. The research methodology employs a qualitative approach with literature study through biblical exegesis analysis and documentary review on religious moderation and CRE. Research findings indicate that peacemaking in Matthew 5:9 aligns with religious moderation indicators: national commitment, tolerance, anti-violence, and accommodation of local culture. Implementation of peace-based CRE requires curriculum transformation integrating interfaith literacy, dialogical-participatory pedagogy, and strengthening educator competencies as peacemaker role models. This study concludes that Matthew 5:9 offers a robust theological paradigm for CRE in forming Christian generations who are firm in faith while becoming active peace agents in plural Indonesian society, fulfilling the authentic identity as "children of God".
