Abstract

This study aims to analyze the promotion of religious moderation villages based on local wisdom as a strategy for fostering religious cosmopolitanism in the pluralistic society of Bengkulu. This program leverages the values of tolerance, cooperation, and respect for diversity through an approach rooted in local wisdom that is rich in culture and customs. This approach is considered effective in reducing religion-based conflicts and fostering social harmony. The study employs qualitative methods, including literature review, in-depth interviews, and participatory observation. The findings indicate that the implementation of local wisdom values through the Religious Moderation Village program can enhance public awareness of the importance of diversity and strengthen religious education in building a cosmopolitan way of life. Strategic recommendations are also provided to support the expansion and sustainability of this program. Abstract

Background:  This study is motivated by the low levels of student engagement and learning outcomes in Islamic Religious Education, mainly due to the dominant use of conventional teaching methods, such as lectures, which limit student participation in the learning process. This condition underscores the need for a more innovative, student-centered learning model. Objective: The purpose of this study is to examine the improvement of Islamic Religious Education learning outcomes through the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning model among fourth-grade students at SD Dasar Negeri 23 Mukomuko. Method: The study employs Classroom Action Research conducted through four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Data were collected using tests and observations to measure students’ learning outcomes and engagement before and after the intervention. Findings: The results indicate that implementing the Problem-Based Learning model significantly improved students’ learning outcomes, as reflected in increases in average scores from 62.25 in the pre-cycle to 70.75 in Cycle I and 86.5 in Cycle II, with the percentage of students achieving mastery rising to 95%. Conclusion: Problem-Based Learning is efficacious in improving learning outcomes in Islamic Religious Education. Originality/Value: This study contributes practical and pedagogical novelty to primary Islamic religious education by demonstrating the effectiveness of shifting from conventional teacher-centered lectures to the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) framework in cultivating active student engagement, problem-solving abilities, and cognitive achievement regarding Islamic education within regional elementary school settings, an area that remains relatively underexplored. These findings enrich the empirical literature and serve as a strategic reference for educators to design dynamic, inquiry-driven learning environments that make religious instruction more meaningful, applicable, and student-centered.

Abstract

Background: Low student learning outcomes are often associated with low reading interest. Reading interest plays an important role in improving students’ understanding, knowledge, and academic achievement. Therefore, increasing students’ reading interest has become an important concern for teachers and schools. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of reading interest on students’ learning outcomes and to identify its contribution to learning achievement. Method: The study employed a correlational associative research design. The research was conducted at SMA Plus Merdeka Soreang during the 2024 academic year. The sample consisted of 38 second-grade students selected using a population sampling technique. Data were collected using reading interest and learning outcomes questionnaires and analysed using Pearson correlation analysis and simple linear regression. Result: The findings revealed a significant positive relationship between reading interest and students’ learning outcomes, with a correlation coefficient of 0.747 and a significance value of 0.000. Conclusion: The study concludes that reading interest strongly influences students’ learning outcomes. Originality/Value: This study contributes practical and pedagogical novelty to primary Islamic religious education by demonstrating the effectiveness of the Card Sort active learning method in shifting away from passive recitation routines toward enhancing phonetic accuracy, tajweed application, and active student engagement regarding Quranic reading competencies on Surah Al-Hujurat within elementary classroom settings, an area that remains limited in card-based interactive empirical inquiry. These findings enrich the empirical literature and serve as a strategic reference for primary educators to design visual, collaborative, and student-centered Quranic learning strategies that fit young learners' developmental needs.

Abstract

Background: This study aimed to improve students’ learning engagement and outcomes by implementing the Demonstration Method in Fiqh instruction. Method: This study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR), consisting of two cycles: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The participants were eighth-grade students at MTTS Al Hasanah Bengkulu Tengah. Data were collected through classroom observations and learning achievement tests and analysed using descriptive quantitative methods. Results: The findings demonstrated a substantial improvement in both student engagement and learning outcomes. Learning mastery increased from 40.84% in the pre-cycle stage to 73.68% in Cycle I and 92.11% in Cycle II, exceeding the success criterion of 75%. Student engagement also improved from 50.00% in the pre-cycle stage to 76.92% in Cycle I and 90.38% in Cycle II, surpassing the established indicator of 70%. Conclusion: The Demonstration Method effectively enhanced student engagement and learning outcomes in Fiqh, particularly in the Hajj and Umrah unit. Contribution: This study provides empirical evidence supporting the use of demonstration-based learning as an effective instructional strategy for promoting active participation and improving learning achievement in Islamic education.
