Abstract

Flooding is a natural disaster that frequently strikes Pangeranan Village, Bangkalan District, Bangkalan Regency, especially during the rainy season and high tides. Lowlying topography and a poorly functioning drainage system make this area prone to flooding. This study aims to identify the root causes of low public awareness of flood prevention efforts. The research methods used included questionnaires to determine the level of public knowledge and attitudes, interviews to explore residents' views and habits regarding environmental protection, and field observations to directly observe the conditions of areas frequently flooded. The study population included all residents of Pangeranan Village, with ten people serving as the research sample. The results showed that public awareness of flood prevention is still relatively low, especially in the aspect of waste and household waste management. Following environmental education activities and training on processing shellfish waste into natural fertilizer and craft products, there was an increase in public awareness and participation in maintaining environmental cleanliness. These activities not only help reduce the risk of flooding but also provide additional economic value by utilizing waste into marketable products.
