Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic disease that can cause complications, including sleep disorders. Sleep disorders in patients with hypertension can reduce quality of life and increase the risk of cardiovascular complications. Slow stroke back massage nonpharmacological therapy is one intervention that can be used to improve sleep quality. This case report aims to describe the application of slow stroke back massage on the sleep quality of patients with hypertension at the Pampang Community Health Center. The method used was nursing care, which included assessment, data analysis, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Hypertensive patients experienced difficulty sleeping, frequent nighttime awakenings, headaches, and tension in the neck and back. The intervention, which consisted of sleep support and pain management with slow stroke back massage, was carried out for three days with a duration of 10–15 minutes per session. The evaluation results showed a decrease in sleep difficulties, a reduction in the frequency of waking up at night, a decrease in pain intensity, and an increase in patient sleep satisfaction. The conclusion of this report is that slow stroke back massage is effective as a non-pharmacological therapy to improve sleep quality in hypertensive patients.

Abstract

Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) is a progressive clinical syndrome characterized by the inability of the heart to pump blood adequately, causing a decrease in tissue perfusion and symptoms such as dyspnea, orthopnea, and fatigue. Dyspnea is one of the main complaints of CHF patients. This case study aims to determine the effectiveness of airway management, especially through semi-fowler position adjustment, in reducing the level of dyspnea in patients with Congestive Heart Failure in the emergency room of Labuang Baji Hospital Makassar. This study uses a case study design with a nursing process approach that includes assessment, diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The subject was a 54-year-old male patient with a medical diagnosis of CHF, the main complaint of shortness of breath. After 8 hours of nursing intervention, patients showed a decrease in the level of shortness of breath, improvement in breathing patterns, increased oxygen saturation up to 98–99%, and stabilization of vital signs. Patients also report improved comfort and better sleep quality. The conclusion of the study is that airway management through the application of the semi-fowler position has been shown to be effective in reducing dyspnea in patients with congestive heart failure. This intervention can be recommended as one of the simple, effective, and easily applied non-pharmacological measures in the emergency department and treatment room.

Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic condition often causing headaches due to increased blood pressure that affects cerebral circulation and induces muscle tension. This symptom impacts patient comfort and quality of life. Pain management can be delivered pharmacologically or non-pharmacologically. One effective non-pharmacological method is a warm compress, which works through vasodilation, improved circulation, and muscle relaxation. This scientific work applied a case report on a 63-year-old male patient with hypertension who presented to the Emergency Department of RSUD Labuang Baji Makassar with a headache rated 6 on the pain scale. After a warm compress intervention, pain decreased to a score of 3. The results show that warm compresses effectively reduce pain intensity and improve patient comfort. This method can be considered a simple, practical, and applicable nursing intervention.

Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic disease with a low rate of medication adherence. Many patients only take medication when symptoms occur, which increases the risk of complications. Health education plays an important role in improving patients’ understanding and behavior related to hypertension therapy. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of an education program in improving medication adherence among hypertension patients. Methods: This study employed a pre-experimental design with a pretest-posttest approach. Data were collected through observation sheets and interviews. Results: Before receiving education, the patient only took medication when experiencing symptoms, with a blood pressure of 165/95 mmHg. After the educational intervention, the patient demonstrated improved knowledge, started using a phone alarm as a reminder, and showed better medication adherence. Blood pressure decreased to 150/90 mmHg. Conclusion: The education program was proven effective in improving patients’ knowledge and adherence to antihypertensive medication. Continuous education that is simple, easy to understand, and involves family support plays a crucial role in controlling blood pressure and preventing long-term complications.
