Abstract

Hypertension is one of the non-communicable diseases that has a high prevalence and is the main risk factor for cardiovascular complications. One of the complaints that often arise in hypertensive patients is neck pain due to increased blood pressure and muscle tension. Wet cupping therapy is one of the complementary treatment methods that has been proven to be able to lower blood pressure while reducing pain complaints by removing blood containing pathological substances from the body. This study used a case study method on a patient (Mrs. D) with complaints of neck pain and hypertension at Rumah Sehat Zein Holistik Therapy Makassar. The nursing care process is carried out through the stages of review, determination of nursing diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. Wet cupping therapy is given at specific points related to complaints of neck pain and hypertension. The results showed a decrease in pain intensity from a scale of 4 (moderate pain) to a milder scale after the intervention, accompanied by improved comfort and a decrease in patient blood pressure. The overall evaluation showed that wet cupping therapy was able to provide a relaxing effect, reduce complaints of neck pain, and help control blood pressure in hypertensive patients. Conclusions: Wet cupping therapy is effectively used as a complementary therapy to reduce neck pain while helping to control blood pressure in hypertensive patients. These results are expected to be considered in holistic nursing practice, especially in non-pharmacological management in hypertensive patients.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the health problems whose prevalence continues to increase from year to year. This condition can cause serious complications if not controlled, so proper management efforts are needed. In addition to pharmacological therapy, there are non-pharmacological therapies that can be used as supportive alternatives. One of them is the use of bay leaf decoction which is believed to have an effect on lowering blood pressure. This study aims to determine the application of bay leaf decoction to reduce blood pressure in hypertensive patients. This study uses a case study approach on Mrs. R, a patient with a history of hypertension for two years. The patient's initial blood pressure was recorded at 170/105 mmHg with the main complaints being headache, dizziness, and blurred vision. The intervention carried out was the regular administration of bay leaf decoction, accompanied by blood pressure monitoring, subjective symptom assessment, and education about a healthy lifestyle. The results showed a decrease in the patient's blood pressure from 170/105 mmHg to 150/90 mmHg after the intervention. In addition, subjective complaints in the form of headaches were reduced from a scale of 5/10 to 4/10, accompanied by a decrease in dizziness and anxiety. Health education also increases patient understanding of the importance of regular check-ups, low-salt dietary arrangements, and adherence in managing hypertension. In conclusion, bay leaf decoction has been shown to be effective as a complementary therapy in helping to lower blood pressure and reduce symptoms of hypertension. This therapy is natural, easy to reach, and can be used as an alternative to support hypertension management in the community.

Abstract

STROKE is one of the major health problems in Indonesia because it not only increases morbidity and disability rates but also reduces patients' quality of life. Physical mobility impairment is one of the common effects on post-stroke patients due to muscle weakness and limited range of motion. One nursing intervention that can be provided to reduce these effects is Range of Motion (ROM) exercises, which have been proven to maintain joint flexibility, increase muscle strength, and prevent complications from immobilisation. To determine the application of ROM in stroke patients with physical mobility disorders in the working area of the Pampang Community Health Centre in Makassar City. A case study was conducted through nursing care that included the stages of assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The intervention was carried out for three days (3x24 hours) on patient Mr. B, a 66-year-old male with a history of non-haemorrhagic stroke since 3 years ago who experienced weakness in his right extremities. The results showed that after ROM exercises, the patient experienced improved mobility, characterised by reduced muscle stiffness, increased limb strength, and increased range of motion. Daily evaluations showed that the problem of physical mobility impairment had been partially resolved, with the involvement of the family playing an important role in helping with the exercises at home. The application of ROM is effective in improving the mobility of stroke patients, preventing complications due to immobilisation, and supporting patient independence. ROM exercises are a simple, inexpensive intervention that can be performed independently by patients and families, so they are recommended for routine application both in health facilities and at home.
