Abstract

Vertigo is often accompanied by headaches that interfere with daily activities and reduce the patient's quality of life. Non-pharmacological management such as cupping therapy is increasingly used as an effort to reduce pain and vertigo complaints. A nursing care approach with SDKI, SIKI, and SLKI standards is needed to provide a systematic and measurable intervention The purpose of this study is to determine the picture of nursing care in patients with Acute Pain problems using SDKI, SIKI, and SLKI standards, as well as the effectiveness of cupping interventions in reducing pain intensity. This study used a case study method on a patient (Mrs. A) who experienced vertigo and headache. Nursing care is carried out through assessment, diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation in accordance with SDKI, SIKI, and SLKI. Non-pharmacological interventions in the form of cupping therapy are carried out at specific points according to the patient's complaints, accompanied by education on relaxation techniques and muscle stretching. After cupping therapy and education, the patient's pain intensity decreased from a scale of 5/10 to 2–3/10, the frequency of vertigo attacks decreased, the patient appeared more relaxed, and was able to identify the trigger and perform relaxation techniques independently. The application of nursing care based on SDKI, SIKI, and SLKI with non-pharmacological interventions in the form of cupping therapy effectively helps reduce the intensity of pain and the frequency of vertigo attacks in patients, as well as increase the comfort and independence of patients in managing their complaints.

Abstract

Lower back pain is a common musculoskeletal complaint and can be caused by compression neuropathy due to pressure on peripheral nerves or spinal nerve roots. Wet cupping therapy is known as a complementary method that has the potential to reduce pain intensity by increasing blood circulation, removing metabolic waste products, and stimulating endorphin release. This study aims to determine the application of wet cupping therapy to reduce low back pain in patients with compression neuropathy at the Zein Holistic Therapy Clinic in Makassar City. This study used a case study method on a 40-year-old female patient with complaints of low back pain radiating to the legs with an initial pain scale of 5 (moderate) as measured using the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS). The intervention was carried out in the form of wet cupping therapy according to standard operating procedures for nursing, followed by post-intervention pain measurements. The results showed a decrease in the pain scale from 5 to 2 after wet cupping therapy. The conclusion of this study is that wet cupping therapy is effective in reducing low back pain in patients with compression neuropathy, so it can be recommended as a non-pharmacological intervention in evidence-based nursing care.

Abstract

Low back pain can be treated through pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies. One widely used non-pharmacological method is cupping therapy. Cupping therapy is a traditional healing method that has been known for thousands of years and is used in various parts of the world, including Indonesia. This therapy involves applying special cups to the skin's surface to create negative pressure. This process aims to increase blood flow, reduce muscle tension, and help remove toxins from the body. There are two types of cupping therapy: dry cupping and wet cupping. Objective: To determine the effect of cupping therapy on pain reduction in patient Mrs. R with low back pain at the Zein Holistic Clinic. Method: This is a case study describing the findings in one patient, Mrs. R, with a medical diagnosis of low back pain.Nursing Care Outcomes: The nursing diagnosis established based on Mrs. R's assessment was acute pain. Treatment for low back pain, including cupping therapy, was administered on August 11, 2025, at the Zein Holistic Clinic in Makassar. Based on the assessment results, the pain scale was 6/10 using the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS). After cupping therapy, the pain decreased to 4/10. The cupping points used, based on the Sunnah, were Azh-Zhar and Al-Warik. Conclusion: Cupping therapy is expected to reduce Mrs. R's pain. This is expected to provide input for ongoing topic development.
