Abstract

Bacterial infectious diseases remain a significant health problem, particularly due to the increasing incidence of antibiotic resistance. This condition encourages the exploration of alternative antibacterial agents derived from natural sources. This study aims to review the potential of medicinal plants as antibacterial agents based on published literature. The method used was a literature review of scientific articles published between 2020-2025, obtained from Google Scholar and PubMed. The results indicate that various medicinal plants exhibit antibacterial activity with varying levels of inhibition, which are influenced by the presence of secondary metabolites such as flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, and saponins. These findings suggest that medicinal plants have the potential to be developed as natural antibacterial agents and alternatives for the treatment of bacterial infections.
