Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of animation video-based learning media in improving students' conceptual understanding of Social Studies (IPS) at the elementary school level through a systematic literature review approach. The method used is a literature review by analyzing 25 scientific articles published between 2018 and 2024 from various databases including Google Scholar, ERIC, and Garuda. The results indicate that the use of animation videos consistently improves elementary school students' understanding of IPS concepts, with an average improvement of 20–35% in learning outcomes compared to conventional instruction. Animation videos are effective because they present abstract concepts visually and concretely, increase learning motivation, and accommodate the learning styles of elementary-aged students. The findings also reveal that the effectiveness of animation videos is influenced by content quality, viewing duration, and integration with active learning approaches. This study contributes to the development of innovative and technology-based IPS learning strategies in the digital era.
