Abstract

ABSTRACTThe paper describes the result of experimental research on plastic trap to catch babylon snail (Babylonia spirata). The aims of the research were to have the effective shape of trap to catch babylon snail. The shapes of trap were dome, truncated pyramid, and block. While, 2 kinds of baits were shark (Rhinodon typicus) and sardine (Sardinella spp.). Result showed that babylon snail preferred bait of sardine to shark. The truncated pyramid trap was more effective than dome and block trap. Each trap cauht 22, 16 and 4 babylon snail, respectively.Keywords: Plastic trap, babylon snail and Palabuhanratu--------ABSTRAKTulisan ini menjelaskan hasil uji coba perangkap plastik untuk menangkap keong macan (Babylonia spirata). Penelitian ditujukan untuk mendapatkan bentuk perangkap yang efektif menangkap keong macan. Bentuk trap berupa kubah, limas terpancung dan balok. Adapun 2 jenis umpan yang digunakan adalah tembang (Sardinella spp.) dan cucut (Rhinodon typicus). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa keong macan lebih menyukai umpan tembang dibandingkan dengan hiu. Perangkap bentuk limas terpancung lebih efectif dibandingkan dengan perangkap bentuk kubah dan balok. Masing-masing perangkap menangkap 22, 16 dan 4 keong macan.Kata kunci: Perangkap plastik, keong macan dan Palabuhanratu
