Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan pengetahuan guru tentang Text-based Curriculum, Discourse Competence, Kompetensi Pendukung, Nuansa Makna, Prinsip-prinsip Pendekatan Literasi, dan Tahapan Pembelajaran sebagai indikator pemahaman guru tentang Kurikulum 2004 mata pelajaran bahasa Inggris. Penelitian deskriptif kuantitatif ini menggunakan kuesener yang dikirimkan ke 42 SMP Negeri se- Kota Surabaya. Dari data disimpulkan bahwa rata-rata 79,15 % guru Bahasa Inggris SMP Negeri se-Kota Surabaya sudah memahami keenam indicator tersebut. Sehingga disarankan untuk meneruskan program sosialisasi kurikulum 2004; pelatihan penulisan teks dan penerapan prinsip literasi dalam proses pembelajaran.This research described the teachersÂ’ knowledge of six indicators for understanding the 2004 English Curriculum, namely: the text-based curriculum, discourse competence, supporting competence, the nuances of meaning, the principles of literacy education, and the stages of instruction. This descriptive quantitative research used questionnaire sent to 42 state junior high schools in Surabaya. It was concluded that in average 79.1 % of the subjects have already understood those indicators.Therefore, it is recommended that the programs concerning socialisation of 2004 curriculum; training in text writing and application of literacy principles be continued.
