<![CDATA[The aim of the research are to determine 1) The validity of the instruments (Learning device based STS) for Guaranteeing data of the research result. 2) Effectiveness of learning device based on STS to improve metacognitive ability of the student. The study used research methods and development model Borg and Gall modified. Targets of the research consiSTS of "trial class" and "development class". Trial target of learning device developed is the students grade X IPS 3 SMAN 2 Surakarta in academic Year 2015/ 2016, while the development of learning device based STS is the students grade X IPS 5 ( Instrument class) and X IPS 3( Control class) SMAN 2 Surakarta in academic Year 2015/ 2016. The trial results of feasibility showed that the valid instrument used for research with the achievement of excellent value. The results of obtained by the percentage of excellent achievement. The results showed that the learning device of economic based on STS effective for improving the metacognitive at the time of testing the effectiveness test between the control class and the development class. The average value of metacognitive of development class higher than the control class, as well as to the average value of learning outcomes of development class higher than the control class.
