The purpose of this study was to determine the mechanics profiles and competencies needed by the vehicle to mechanics in the workshop 2-wheel vehicle automotive in Surakarta. This research was a qualitative measure. The experiment was conducted with a qualitative approach consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. Subjects were head and a mechanical workshop of 3 formal workshop (workshop authorized Honda, Yamaha, and Suzuki) and 1 public workshop in Surakarta, amounting to 4 head of mechanics and 8 mechanics. The data collection technique was the observation, interviews, questionnaires and documentation or archival. The validity of the data using method triangulation techniques. Data analysis using descriptive statistical analysis techniques comparative and critical analysis. The results showed that : (1) 2-wheel vehicle automotive mechanics profile in Surakarta has at least approximately 3 kinds of competencies, namely : general competence, professional competence/engineering, and additional competence that were not in IQFS automotive mechanic. (2) Appropriatelevel between General competence with industrial need of automotive services : Procedures followed Occupational Health, Safety and Environment (83.3%; very high), read and understand Engineering Drawing (61.1%; quite high), manual handling of operations (69.4%; high), use and Maintainance Equipment and Equipment in the Workplace (80.5%; very high), use and Maintainance Measuring Instrument (86.1%; very high), Maintainance operations components and Repair (83.3%; very high) and Maintainance Hydraulic Systems (80.5%; very high). (3) Appropriatelevel between Professional competence/engineering with industrial need of automotive services : Engine Maintainance its components (91.6%; very high), remove the head, assessing the components, and assemble the cylinder head (83.3%; very high), Maintainance the following cooling system components (83.3%; very high), Maintainance Fuel System (75%; high), Maintainance automated and manual clutch unit (83.3%; very high), Maintainance Brake System (63.8%; quite high), assemble and install the following Brake System components (75%; high), Maintainance Suspension Systems (91.6%; very high), Maintainance the chain / chain (91.6%; very high), testing, Maintainance, and Changing Battery (83.3%; very high), perform the series of Lightweight Repaired / Electrical System (91.6%; very high), and Repaired Ignition system (91.6%; very high).
