This research aimed to know the increasing of the ability of mathematical representations of students with realistic mathematics approach. The design which was used was pretest-posttest control group design. The population of this research was all students of grade VII of SMP Tamansiswa Telukbetung in academic year of 2013/2014 that was distributed into five classes. The samples of this research were students of VII B and VII E class which were taken by purposive random sampling technique. The research data were obtained by the test of mathematical representations ability. The conclusion of this research was realistic mathematics education was ineffective to increase mathematical representations ability of students.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatan kemampuan representasi matematis siswa dengan pendekatan matematika realistik. Desain yang digunakan adalah pretest-posttest control group design. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VII SMP Tamansiswa Telukbetung tahun pelajaran 2013/2014 yang terdistribusi dalam lima kelas. Sampel penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VII B dan VII E yang diambil dengan teknik purposive random sampling. Data penelitian diperoleh melalui tes kemampuan representasi matematis. Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah pendekatan matematika realistik tidak efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan representasi matematis siswa.
