Abstract

This study aims to determine the increase in student learning outcomes and activities in addition material by applying a realistic mathematical education approach in class I 138436 Public Elementary School Tanjungbalai 2017/2018 school year. This classroom action research takes place in two cycles. The study was conducted in January 2018 until April 2018. The research subjects were all first grade students of SD Negeri 138436 Tanjungbalai in the 2017/2018 school year, totaling 22 students. Learning outcomes data are obtained through learning outcomes tests, while student learning activity data is obtained through observation sheets of student learning activities. The results showed that student learning outcomes improved by applying the realistic mathematics education approach in Formative I and Formative II, increasing from an average value of 73 to 81 and classical completeness from 64% to 91% in Cycle II. So that an increase of 27%, and reached a success indicator of research. The results also showed that student learning activities increased by applying a realistic mathematical education approach indicated by the percentage of active students in Cycle I at 77% and in Cycle II by 95% with an increase of 18%.
