Abstract

The aim of this research was to describe the effectiveness ofpredict-observe-explain (POE) learning model in reaction rate conceptto enhance prediction skills.  Students who became the subject of this research was 1 Science class grade XI in SMA N 6 Bandar Lampung Academic Year 2012/2013. This research used the preexperimental method and one-group pretest-posttest design. The effectiveness of POE learning model was determined based on the averageof normalization-Gain  (n-Gain).The results of this research showed that the averageof n-Gainof prediction skills was 0.60.  Thus, it can be concluded that the POE learning model in reaction rate concept effective to enhance prediction skills in medium category.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan efektivitas model pembelaj-aran predict-observe-explain (POE) pada materi laju reaksi dalam meningkatkan keterampilan memprediksi.  Subyek dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XI IPA1SMA Negeri 6 Bandar Lampung semester ganjil tahun ajaran 2012/2013.  Penelitian ini menggunakan metode preexperimental dengan One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design.  Efektivitas model pembelajaran POE ditunjukkan oleh adanya peningkatan nilai pretest dan posttest yang dilihat dari nilai normalisasi-gain (n-Gain).  Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata nilai n-gain keterampilan memprediksi sebesar 0,60.  Dapat disimpulkan bahwa pembelajaran POE  pada materi laju reaksi efektif dalam meningkatkan keterampilan memprediksi dengan kriteria sedang.Kata kunci: keterampilan memprediksi, n-gain, pembelajaran POE
