Sejak awal keberadaan Islam sebagai agama dan keyakinan resmi dikalangan masyarakat Gorontalo, sejak itu pulalah Islam menjadi sandaran dan rujukan bagi keseluruhan aktifitas hidup masyarakat Gorontalo, baik itu yang berkaitan dengan ritual atau syariat, maupun aktifitas tersebut yang berkaitan dengan adat dan kebiasaan sehari-hari. Hal demikian dapat dipahami, bahwa Gorontalo dikenal dengan falsafahnya yakni âAdati hula-hulaa to saraa, saraa hula-hulaa to Kurâaniâ yang diartikan sebagai âadat bersendi syarak, syarak bersendi Kitabullahâ. Nilai kearifan tersebut merupakan falsafah hidup masyarakat Gorontalo yang telah dirumuskan sejak raja Amai yang konsepnya mengalami penyempurnaan sebanyak tiga kali, hingga raja Eyato dengan konsep seperti yang kita kenal sekarang. Kearifan lokal Gorontalo seperti yang tersimpulkan dalam falsafah Adat bersendi Syara, Syara bersendi Kitabullah-menjadi warna dan corak tersendiri bagi pelaksanaan dan pengimplementasian nilai-nilai agama di bumi Gorontalo.-------------------------Islam has become the support and reference among Gorontalo people from the early period the religion. It is including in their way of life and daily activity such as daily lives and traditions. Therefore, it can be understood that Gorontalo is known with the philosophical "Adati hula-hulaa to saraa, saraa hula-hulaa to Kurani" which meant as "custom is based on the shariâah, and so, the shariâah is based on the Qurâan". This local value is a philosophy of life that had been formulated from the Gorontalo first Muslim king, Sultan Amai. This concept was modified three times until the King Eyato with the concept as we know it today. Gorontalonese local wisdom as inferred in indigenous of "custom is based on the shariâah, and so, the shariâah is based on the Qurâan" uniquetly influence their way of lives and in the forms and implementation of religious values in Gorontalo.
