Abstract

AbstractThis research was carried out to solve students’ problem, in what way collaborative learning improves students’ descriptive text to the eleventh grade students of SMAN 3 Sungai Ambawang in academic year 2014-2015. Classroom Action Research is used in conducting this research. The tools of data collection used are written test, observation checklist, and field note. Using collaborative learning technique is useful to students since it gives the students a chance to learn how to be active in writing process and to guide the students to produce the descriptive text. In doing so, they had the privilege to give some opinions and ask questions to their group, the writer, or the teacher. Later on, the writing product was discussed with other groups. The writer intention is to collaborate students to broaden their ideas and open their mind to see others’ perspective. The students’ competence was improved step by step until they fulfilled all indicators of success. This confirmed the teacher that students’ descriptive text writing skills have been imroved.Key words: Collaborative Learning, Descriptive Text, and Writing
