Self-reliance in students will affect student achievement in school. So that there is an effort made to encourage student independence in learning. This study aims to describe the independence of students in the learning process in grade III elementary school negeri 1 Banda Aceh. The approach of this research is qualitative approach and descriptive research type. The subjects of this study are students of SD Negeri 1 Banda Aceh amounted to 28 people. Data collection was done by observation technique. Data analysis techniques through data reduction, present data, and draw conclusions. The results showed that students' independence consists of self-confidence, self-employed, time-honored, competing to advance, responsible and have the ability to make decisions. Independence that is in the good category is confident, able to work alone, respect the time, have the desire to compete to move forward. While the category is good enough is as follows responsible and take decisions. In growing the attitude of student independence teachers should be able to improve all aspects of the attitude of independence, especially on the attitude of responsible and make decisions. The development of self-reliance in students can be done by developing a democratic teaching-learning process, encouraging children to actively participate in decision-making, giving children the freedom to explore the environment, encouraging students to curiosity, not discriminating one child to another, Good and intimate relationships with children.
