<![CDATA[Aim: The aim of this case report is to present a rare finding of protostylid on the mandibular second molar.Background: Human teeth of both primary and permanent dentitions sometimes shows developmentalmalformation which results in alteration of their size, shape and structure and especially with the crowneither in the form of anomalous cusps or an increase in the number of cusp. A protostylid is a supernumeraryor accessory cusp found on the molars on the mesial half of the buccal surface.Case discussion: This case report presents a rare finding of protostylid on the buccal surface of the permanentleft second molar tooth in a 12 year old female patient. There was no similar finding seen on the other teethand in other members of the family.Conclusion: The dental polymorphisms described in this case report is some of the rarest and unique formsof the human dentition. Thus, the reporting and preservation of these structures can be important from theperspective of forensic odontology.Clinical significance: Though this may not pose significant problem in most instances but its finding is ofvery much significant interest from the perspective of forensic dentistry]]>
