Abstract

Dapat disimpulkan bahwa pembelajaran konseptual dapat meningkatkan kemampuan representasi matematis siswa.ABSTRACTThis study aimed to analyze mathematical representation ability of students obtained contextual learning compared to students who obtain expository learning, both in overall and by level of learning achievement of high, medium and low. The study design was quasi-experimental with purposive sampling. Samples were three Junior High School (SMP) in Pekanbaru with one (1) school as a representative for each level. The research instrument consisted of pretest and posttest, which contains questions to determine the ability of students' mathematical representation (visual, verbal and symbolic) on relations and functions subject. In overall, results showed that there was a difference in the ability of the mathematical representation based at the school level and between learning approach, in which the differences were significant (p = 0.003). N-gain value analysis shows that there was also difference in mathematical ability improvement after contextual learning, and difference in overall N-gain improvement was significant (p = 0.0005). It can be concluded that conceptual learning can improve students' mathematical representation.
