Abstract

A person will experience the aging process, which is characterized by changes and decreases in body functions over time. Those who experience aging are also called the elderly (elderly), because changes in body functions can affect mobility and cause the risk of falling. The risk of falling is one of the disorders that occurs because the decreased balance ability in the elderly makes it difficult for them to maintain their body position efficiently during movements. There are several ways that are used to develop balance in the elderly, one of which is the provision of core stability exercises. Giving core stability exercises can increase muscle strength and stability of movement, which then improves balance ability in the elderly. This research was an experimental research which uses a one group pretest and posttest design, with a population of 30 people who were taken randomly. This study was given to the elderly aged over 60 years at Gambiran Hospital Kediri City, where core stability exercise was given twice a week for four weeks and balance was measured with a Timer Up and Go Test (TUGT) measuring instrument. Wilcoxon test obtained a median value of pre 12.3 and post 10.6 with a difference of 1.7. So, the p-value was 0.000 (<0.05), so the results showed an increase in balance in the elderly in Gambiran Hospital, Kediri after being given core stability exercise. Up and Go Tes (TUGT).
