Abstract: Housewives in Sobangan Village have not segregated the waste before disposing it in a temporary landfill. Lack of knowledge in carrying out waste sorting actions and less of the trash can that is owned cause the housewives still dispose garbage in the yard, river and ditch. The type of research that used in this study was an analytical survey with a cross sectional method. The sample in this study was 290 housewives who were selected by a systematic random sampling. Data were collected using interview sheets and observations then analyzed by the chi square test. The results of the chi square test were obtained from the relationship of the level of knowledge with the action of p 0,000 α (0.05) CC value of 0.432 and the chi square test was obtained from the presence of the trash with the action p 0,000 α (0.05) CC value 0.434 which means there is a relationship the level of knowledge and existence of the trash can with the actions of housewives in sorting waste. Knowledge and actions of housewives in sorting waste is still deficient. Consequently, the village apparatus are expected to conducts socialization, counseling and training regarding the sorting of organic and inorganic waste to housewives by involving youth organizations as a forum to help provide information about waste.
