Abstract

Caffeine is a typical substance that can be extracted from plants. Caffeine comes from ingredients commonly found in coffee beans, tea leaves and cocoa beans. In addition, caffeine can also be produced synthetically. Consuming caffeine has positive and negative effects which are determined based on the amount of caffeine consumed. Stimulant substances contained in caffeine can cause someone who consumes caffeine to experience sleep problems so that a person's sleep pattern becomes bad. The purpose behind the observations was to see if there was a correlation between caffeine use and sleep patterns among students at various universities in Indonesia. The research was conducted using the type of observation (research) through a cross sectional study approach. Respondents from this observation were 100 students from various universities in Indonesia. Information gathering strategy by using important information and direct perception by using a questionnaire in the form of Google form. The results of the study stated that there was a relationship between caffeine consumption and sleep patterns in students (p = 0.004). It is recommended that students consume caffeine in normal amounts and not consume it regularly.
