<![CDATA[Abstract: The operating system is the most important type of software in a computer system that serves as the manager of computer hardware resources and providers of public services for application software systems. The operating system is divided into two properties are close source-based operating system or operating system-based commercial and open source or free and GPL licensed. Currently based operating system piracy and commercial close source to be an alternative for computer users because of the many service providers are available and operating systems based on the view that close source or commercial (windows) and make friends more easily understood by computer users. It is not in line with the IPR (intellectual property) and ITE applicable law. Piracy is an act that violates the law, regulated by law No. 19 of 2002 on Copyright. From the description above, the researchers aim to manipulate the open source operating system based on a user's friends with and have a good level of convenience to be understood by computer users. With a modified open source operating system based on the expected user's computer operating system to switch from illegal (piracy) to legal (based on open source operating system) and dismissed the notion that closed source operating system based on commercial or more friends with computer users. Keywords: operating systems, operating systems based on open source Abstrak : Sistem operasi adalah jenis yang paling penting dari perangkat lunak dalam sistem komputer yang berfungsi sebagai pengelola sumber daya perangkat keras komputer dan penyedia layanan umum untuk aplikasi perangkat lunak sistem. Sistem operasi terbagi menjadi dua sifat yaitu sistem operasi berbasis close source atau komersial dan sistem operasi berbasis open source atau gratis dan berlisensi GPL. Saat ini pembajakan sistem operasi berbasis close source dan komersial menjadi alternatif bagi pengguna komputer karena banyaknya penyedia layanan jasa yang tersedia dan pandangan bahwa sistem operasi berbasis close source atau komersial (windows) lebih berteman dan mudah dimengerti oleh pengguna komputer. Hal itu tidak sejalan dengan HAKI (hak atas kekayaan intelektual) dan UU ITE yang berlaku. Pembajakan adalah perbuatan yang melanggar hukum, diatur oleh undang-undang Nomor 19 Tahun 2002 tentang Hak Cipta. Dari uraian diatas maka peneliti bertujuan untuk merekayasa sistem operasi berbasis open source yang lebih berteman dengan pengguna dan mempunyai tingkat kemudahan yang baik untuk dimengerti oleh pengguna komputer. Dengan hasil rekayasa sistem operasi berbasis open source tersebut diharapkan pengguna komputer beralih dari sistem operasi yang illegal (pembajakan) ke legal ( sistem operasi berbasis open source) dan menepis anggapan bahwa sistem operasi berbasis close source atau komersial lebih berteman dengan pengguna komputer.
