PENERAPAN MODEL PEMBELAJARAN POE (PREDICT-OBSERVE-EXPLAIN) UNTUK MENINGKATKAN KEMAMPUAN BERPIKIR KRITIS DAN KOGNITIF FISIKA SMP

Suatu model pembelajaran dibutuhkan untuk memberikan kesempatan kepada siswa terlibat aktif dalam mengeksplorasi dan mengaplikasikan konsep-konsep IPA di kehidupan sehari-hari. Salah satunya yaitu model POE (Predict-Observe-Explain). POE merupakan metode pembelajaran yang lebih menekankan siswa untuk mengembangkan kecakapan hidup (life skills). Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis dan kemampuan kognitif siswa SMP setelah diterapkannya model pembelajaran POE dalam pokok bahasan kalor. Desain penelitian ini menggunakan metode Pretest-Posttest One Group Design. Sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VII C SMP N 2 Juwangi. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa nilai gain hasil belajar kognitif dengan kategori sedang. Nilai gain kemampuan berpikir kritis juga dengan kategori sedang. Hasil t-test menunjukkan bahwa thitung lebih besar dari ttabel (thitung > ttabel). Berdasarkan hasil analisis tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan model pembelajaran POE  pada pembelajaran fisika dapat meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis dan kemampuan kognitif siswa. A learning model is needed to provide an opportunity to actively engage students in exploring and applying the concepts of science in everyday life. One of them is the model POE (Predict-Observe-Explain). POE is a method of learning that emphasizes the students to develop life skills. The purpose of this study was to determine the increase in critical thinking skills and cognitive ability junior high school students after the implementation of the POE model of learning in the subject of heat. The design method used in this research is Pretest-Posttest One Group Design. The sample in this research is class VII C SMP N 2 Juwangi. The results showed that cognitive achievement gain value with a medium category. Value gain critical thinking skills also to medium category. Results of t-test showed that  t higher t table (t > ttable). Based on the analysis results, we can conclude that the application of learning models in learning physics POE can improve critical thinking skills and cognitive abilities of students© 2014 Universitas Negeri Semarang
