<![CDATA[Pesantren as a "cultural institution" born on the initiative and initiative (figure) of society and is autonomous, since its inception is a strategic potential that exist in the social life of society. Although most pesantren have positioned themselves only as educational and religious institutions, but since the 1970s several pesantren have attempted to reposition in addressing various social issues of society, such as economic, social, and political. The economic potential is huge with the number of pesantrens in western reply reaching 4, 328 pieces with the number of santri over 5 million people is a giant force when developed.
