Abstract

Study on the pattern and frequency distribution of rainfall in the Morotai island (0.2019' N; 1280 32' E) has been carried out using satellite rainfall data from the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) from 1998 to 2012. The 10-days and monthly rainfall data have been analyzed to obtain the rainfall pattern of the area. Furthermore, to study the extreme rainfall, Peak Over Threshold (POT) method was used. The result showed that Morotai Island has a monsoonal rainfall pattern, with two peaks of rainfall, January and June. Moreover, the frequency distribution of daily rainfall had the highest frequency of rainfall intensity between the (0-6) mm by 3170 times. For 10-days analysis, the highest was 145 times with rainfall intensity between (0-25) mm, while for monthly data was 41 with the intensity of rainfall (149-196) mm.
