English Education Department, Faculty of Language and Art, State University of Surabaya [e-mail] Abstrak Menulis adalah salah satu empat keahlian berbahasa Inggris yng memberikan kontribusi penting untuk kehidupan manusia. Berhadapan dengan kurikulum yang ada, murid kelas tujuh sekolah menengah pertama harus menguasai teks descriptive. Para siswa biasanya mempunyai kesulitan-kesulitan dalam menulis teks descriptive tanpa mengetahui objek asli. Oleh karena itu, seorang guru menggunakan meia yang bisa di aplikasikan dlam proses belajar mengajar untuk membantu para siswa mendapatkan ide pokok dan meningkatkan motivasi para siswa dalam aktivitas menuis teks descriptive. Penelitian ini mendeskripsikan dalam cara kualitatif sebagai metode penelitian. Terdapat dua pertanyaan masalah dalam penelitian ini, yaitu melihat cara guru menerapkan media Sid the Science Kid ini kedalam pengajaran menulis teks descriptive dan melihat respon siswa selama penerapan media pengajaran Sid the Science Kid didalam menulis teks discriptive. Penelitian ini mengunakan dua jenis instrumen, yaitu lembar pengamatan dan lembar kuisioner. Penelitian ini dilakukan selama tiga kali pertemuan. Penelitian ini membawa hasil yang sangat baik. Video Sid the Science Kid telah diterapkan dengan sangat baik oleh guru dan hasil respon siswa baik. Guru telah melakukan langkah-langkah pembelajaran menulis dengan jelas. Beliau menerapkan eksplorasi, elaborasi, dan konfirmasi berdasarkan Permendikbud no. 41 tahun 2007 tentang “Standar Proses untuk Satuan Pendidikan Dasar dan Menengah”dan penerapan pengajaran bahasa Inggris dalam kurikulum KTSP 2006. Berdasarkan lembar kuisioner siswa, itu juga menunjukkan bahwa siswa berpikir bahwa ini adalah media yang kreatif, yang bisa memudahkan mereka untuk mamhami materi pembelajaran, meningkatan motivasi mereka, dan menciptakan suasana yang baik dalam kelas. Singkat kata, video Sid the Science Kid menunjukkan bahwa dapat diterapkan dengan baik untuk mengajar menulis teks descriptive di kelas tujuh Sekolah Menengah Pertama. Kata Kunci : Sid the Science Kid, Keahlian Menulis, Teks Descriptive Abstract Writing as one of four skills in English has given an important contribution to human life. Dealing with the curriculum, the seventh grade of junior high school students have to master descriptive text. Students usually have difficulties in writing descriptive text without knowing about the real object. Therefore, teacher uses a media that can be applied in teaching learning process to help the students get the idea and increase the motivation of the students in writing descriptive text activity. This research is described in a qualitative way. Two research questions which had been formulated by the writer were how the teacher implemented Sid the Science Kid video in teaching writing descriptive text and how are the students’ responses toward the implementation of Sid the Science Kid video in teaching writing descriptive text. The researcher used two instrument, those are observation sheet and questionnaire. The researcher conducted the research in three meetings. The result of this research was quite good. Sid the Science Kid is implemented in a good way by the teacher and students response result were good. The teacher had done the steps of writing clearly. She did exploration, elaboration and confirmation based on Permendikbud no. 41 tahun 2007 about “Standar Proses untuk Satuan Pendidikan Dasar dan Menengah” and the implementation of writing lesson in KTSP 2006 curriculum. From the students’ questionnaire, it is also showed the students thought that this is a creative media, which can ease them to understand the materials, increase their motivation, and create good atmosphere in the class. In brief, Sid the Science Kid video can be applied in the seventh graders to teach writing a descriptive text. Keyword: Sid the Science Kid, Writing Skill, Descriptive Text
