Abstract

English Department, Faculty of Language and Art, State University of Surabaya himmawan_95@yahoo.co.id Abstrak Tujuan peneliti dalam melaksanakan penelitian ini yaitu untuk meneliti apakah terdapat perubahan yang signifikan terhadap membaca pemahaman siswa dalam teks analisis eksposisi setelah pemberian pembelajaran dengan menggunakan strategi DRTA. Adapun desain penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah eksperimental kuantoitatif yang mengaplikasikan pre and posttest-design. Instrumen penelitian yang dipakai dalam penelitian ini merupakan tes pilihan ganda. Untuk menganalisi data yang telah diperoleh, peneliti menggunakan Paired Sample T-test di SPSS 15. Data yang diperoleh dari perhitungan menggunakan Paired Sample T-test menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perubahan signifikan terhadap pemahaman siswa dalam teks analisis eksposisi setelah pemberian strategi DRTA. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari P value dalam tabel output SPSS yaitu .027 dimana nilai tersebut kurang dari .05. Hal ini mengindikasikan bahwa terdapat peningkatan yang signifikan terhadap nilai pretest dan posttest siswa. Berdasarkan hasil dan diskusi penelitian, terdapat perubahan yang signifikan terhadap membaca pemahaman siswa sebelum dan sesudah diberikan strategi pembelajaran menggunakan DRTA. Oleh karena hasil yang di peroleh menunjukkan perubahan yang signifikan maka dapat dikatakan bahwa hipotesis diterima. Hal ini berarti strategi DRTA dapat meningkatkan membaca pemahaman siswa. Lebih dari itu, kerena strategi ini diaplikasiakan dalam pembelajaran membaca pemahaman pada siswa Madrasah Aliyah kelas XI, maka dari itu peneliti menyarankan kepada para peneliti selanjutnya untuk mengaplikasikan strategi ini di sekolah lain (negeri) atau di tingkatan murid yang berbeda (seperti sekolah menegah pertama). Kata Kunci: Aktifitas membaca berfikir langsung, membaca pemahaman, teks analisis eksposisi. Abstract The aim of the researcher in doing this research is to know whether there is a significant difference in students’ reading comprehension of analytical exposition text after being given treatments using Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA). The research design used in this research was experimental quantitative which apply one group pre and posttest-design. The research instrument in this research is multiple choice test. To analyze the data gained, the researcher used Paired Sample T-test in SPSS 15. The data gained from Paired Sample T-test showed that there is significant difference in students reading comprehension of analytical exposition text after being given Directed Reading Thinking activity (DRTA) strategy. It can be seen from the P value in the table output SPSS that is .027 which was less than .05. Therefore, this indicated that there is significant improvement between students’ pretest and posttest score. Moreover, the calculation of eta square showed large effect that was .15 which was larger than .14. According to the result and the discussion of this research, there was significant difference in students’ reading comprehension before and after being taught by using Directed Reading Thinking activity (DRTA) strategy. Therefore, the hypotheses testing was accepted because the result showed that there was significant difference. It means that Directed Reading Thinking activity (DRTA) strategy improve students’ reading comprehension. Furthermore, the researcher suggested that since Directed Reading Thinking activity (DRTA) is effective to be used for teaching reading comprehension at second grade of Madrasah Aliyah, other researcher can conduct the research in the state school or other grades of students (Junior High School).
